Flying high with the Deputy Minister

Don't get worried. I know this is the second blog for me in a row (this is Andy). I just needed to say happy birthday to my sister Kristin; in addition to Gabriel, Marian, Skeeter, and whoever else. It seems as if October 4th is a popular day to be born. It must be related to Valentine's Day somehow. So happy birthday Kristin.

We are now back in Dar. We actually had no problems with getting on the flight. I sat next to the MP of Kigoma (the head official) and the Deputy Minister of Tanzania, who insisted that I join him with 4 or 5 beers. They were both brilliant men, and were very fun to talk to. The beers also made for a very quick flight.

More later when we start working with the kids here in Dar.

P.S. Erik here. Nice day of rest in Dar then back at it with Roots & Shoots kids on Monday. We met Piuce (from Roots & Shoots) today. He picked us up from the airport. Nice welcome. We miss Kigoma, but are excited to meet a new set of kids. They're making movies about coastal issues here in Dar. We made movies about Gulf Coast coastal issues this summer with Paul Wolf from Plaquemine's Parish, LA. This Friday, we'll use Skype and the Nokia video phones to kick off our video pen pal program. I'm sure the kids here are just as excited as the kids in Louisana. I sat this morning in Kigoma having breakfast at the hotel with about 20 vervet monkeys. They were ALL over the place. A gentleman had left his breakfast plate 1/2 full, and they had at it, tipping over the sugar bowl to eat it all up, stealing knives and forks, and staring me down to judge when I'd be leaving and thereby offering them additional treats. Loved it. As Andy says...more later this week. E
